Professional development workshop for artists
We have been working in collaboration with Spud Collective and Gwen Van Spijk to put together a workshop opportunity for artists in our area of benefit as part of Spud Collective's new 'CHIP IN' series.
WHERE: Lincoln Performing Arts Centre
WHEN: 16th June 2017, 11am until 5pm
WHO’S IT FOR: The workshop is suitable for artists working in visual arts, crafts, live performance and related disciplines who live in Lincolnshire (including North and North East Lincolnshire), the City of Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire . This is a professional development workshop for early career artists on how best to fulfil their potential and establish a viable business out of their art.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Topics we will look at include:
• Key factors to consider when setting up and developing a company or career as an independent artist
• Accessing funding and making a strong case for support
• Building effective working relationships
• Avoiding common and not so common pitfalls in running a company/career as an independent artist
The day will be a combination of presentations, case studies, individual and small group exercises and discussion, and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
At the end of the day participants will have an action plan for how to move forward from their current position.
The workshop is delivered by Gwen Van Spijk; an independent producer, mentor and consultant with a 25-year history of working in arts management that has included working with independent artists and companies on day to day management and long term development; strategic initiatives for major institutions; and producing one-off projects for landmark cultural events.
The Spud Collective is a Lincoln-based consortium, working together to strengthen connectivity, ambition and opportunity across Lincolnshire’s growing community of professional creatives.
HOW CAN I BOOK: Places are available from Lincoln Performing Arts Centre Box Office from Friday 12th May. This is a free workshop, but places are limited, so we ask for £5 when you book, and you’ll get it back when you come on the day. Where you are attending on behalf of an organisation/company, places will be limited to 2 per company.
