Family theatre, community and visual arts all represented in 2025 awards
St Hugh's is very happy to announce the three winners of this year's Artist's Awards, and the recipient of the Claire Peasnall Memorial Award for 2025.
Harriet Plewis will use her award to research and develop an "Art School for Carers" programme primarily in Boston, Lincolnshire. Working with Boston College, her ambition is to offer those caring for others an opportunity to co-create the content of the programme, including experiments with materials, learning techniques, and art and social history
Fountain Arts in Scunthorpe will put their award towards the mentoring of 5 artists from North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire to conceive, write, budget for and deliver a solo exhibition. Their aim in providing these supported development opportunities at Fountain Arts is to ensure that the venue presents relevant and captivating experiences of and for the area.
Lowercase Theatre in Grimsby will utilise their award to support the research and development phase of a new play for children and families, based on local author Katie Hopper’s 'The Lady Who Came From the Sun'. This children’s book explores grief with love, joy and gentleness and lowercase will include consultation with the wonderful St Andrew’s Hospice’s Bereavement Team as critical friends in developing the piece
This year's Claire Peasnall Memorial Award for artists working in painting and drawing, goes to Lauren Wilson who is based in Hull. Using part of her award for travel, she plans to visit Orkney to further her interest in nature that thrives in perceived inhospitable places. Orkney species have uniquely adapted to extreme conditions of dryness, saltiness and high winds and Lauren will focus on liminal spaces such as clifftops and rock pools, meeting local writers and artists along the way.
